About Alanna

Alanna is a memorable person who leads with charisma and good humour. Perhaps her most valuable offering as the voice for residents in Ward 1, however, will come from a place of directness and critical thinking. She is an intelligent, persuasive, and persistent advocate for arts and culture and small business in Charlottetown.

She has honed her professional skills as an entrepreneur, growing a successful visual communications business. Alanna has been honoured with several awards, including Distinguished Alumni Award from Holland College, The Cultural Industry Award from The City of Charlottetown and The President’s Excellence Award from Downtown Charlottetown Inc.

Alanna’s volunteer endeavours extend to a number of cultural boards, including Music PEI and CARFAC (Canadian Artists Representation). She has also represented Charlottetown at many National events – most recently in Ottawa, speaking to the House of Commons Standing Committee on “Cultural Hubs”.

Since Alanna was appointed the CEO of The Guild in 2012, It has become a venue where new artists can get exposure, arts groups have space to create, and the community has a gathering spot where everyone feels welcome. The Guild is a true reflection of who she is – inclusive, relevant, accessible, ambitious and entertaining. She has carefully built her professional reputation on effective communication, industry knowledge, transparency, and leadership.

Alanna has a passion for a variety of social justice issues in her volunteer work as a Board Member of the Women’s Network of PEI and Prince Edward Island Family Violence Prevention Services. Alanna believes in giving individuals and communities the opportunity to shine. Individuals with differing abilities, Indigenous peoples, newcomers to Canada, women, youth, and seniors have all benefited from her determination to be inclusive and representative.

A very hard worker who gets things done, Alanna brings light and levity to the table. She has an uncanny ability to make people feel at ease. She listens, integrates knowledge, and then acts accordingly.

Alanna relocated to Charlottetown Prince Edward Island at the age of 19 to pursue her post-secondary education and fell in love with a new Island, which she has called home since 1986.

Alanna is an avid runner who has completed seven full marathons – she also enjoys yoga and boating. The mother of two adult children, Alanna lives in downtown Charlottetown with her husband Steven McLean and their three dogs.
